At Tempest, our mission is to create high-quality products that leave a lasting, positive impact on our planet. We’re committed to minimizing waste through thoughtful design, responsible packaging, and an innovative approach to hardware recycling.
Tempest Hardware Recycling Program
Tempest’s recycling program ensures our products are responsibly repurposed, keeping tech waste out of landfills. While Tempest hardware is designed to last ten years or more, you’ll eventually need or want to replace it. Rather than throw your Tempest into the trash, you can participate in our Recycling Program.
Once we receive your old Tempest Weather Station at our Returns Center, our local recycling partners will pick it up and break everything down into its core elements—plastics, lithium, aluminum, gold, copper, and more. These raw materials are then refined and recycled into clean commodities, ensuring that as much of your old Tempest as possible finds a new purpose. Only a small, non-recyclable portion is responsibly disposed of in a well-managed landfill. We’ve used this program on all returns since 2021, and as of June, 2025 it will be available to any customer interested in participating.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
We’ve partnered with Cruz Foam to incorporate packaging crafted from recyclable, biodegradable and even compostable materials that protect your Tempest with a low impact on the environment. And it’s all produced domestically, shipped over land rather than flown over the ocean. This means less waste and a more environmentally friendly delivery to your door. This packaging will launch in June, 2025!
Reducing Tech Waste
While the majority of Tempest owners prefer to view their data in the Tempest Weather App, or use one of the many third-party integrations available, we understand that some folks prefer a standalone weather display. Designed with our planet in mind, rather than including a dedicated display, we encourage users who want one to repurpose an old iPad or Android tablet. To make this transition seamless, each Tempest system optionally includes a stylish tablet stand, made in the USA from renewable bamboo, allowing users to give new life to their existing devices while reducing unnecessary tech waste. By using what you already have, Tempest helps you create an eco-friendly, clutter-free setup that aligns with our commitment to lowering waste.
