Bolton, MA – WeatherFlow sensor technicians recently installed two new weather stations at Woods Hole Passage Light (left) and Stonington Outer Breakwater (below). Both locations will provide observations from complex waterways. Wood Hole Passage Light is located in one of New England’s most difficult passages, connecting Vineyard Sound to Buzzards Bay. A strong current runs nearly constantly through this narrow waterway, challenging mariners to locate the shortest and safest route to Vineyard Sound. The data from this new weather station has been welcomed by mariners. The new sensor at Stonington, CT will provide critical observations for an area previously devoid of data. For years meteorologists have suspected that this eastern end of Long Island Sound saw stronger winds than forecast models indicate. The new weather statoin is already verifying many of these hypotheses.
