Operational Meteorologist

Job Summary:
WeatherFlow-Tempest is seeking a detail-oriented meteorologist to provide precise, region-specific wind forecasts as part of our operational forecasting team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide wind forecasts for specific locations and time frames (Columbia River Gorge and/or New England)
  • Interpret meteorological data from multiple sources (models, satellite, observational)
  • Deliver concise, accurate, and actionable reports to our customers
  • Be available for occasional briefings or consultations (virtually, & would typically take place on weekday afternoons)

Requirements

  • Ability to work weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with meteorological models (e.g., HRRR, NAM, GFS, WRF)
  • Proficient in using computer systems and software applications
  • Reliable internet access and computer setup
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Previous operational forecast experience (2+ years preferred)
  • Familiarity with local wind patterns in the areas covered (Columbia River Gorge and/or New England) would be nice, as would a familiarity with wind or water sports (sailing, kiteboarding, surfing, windsurfing, and/or fishing.
